DAPHNE, Ala.—The city of Daphne will host a “Parade of Champions” on Thursday starting at 6 p.m. to honor the Daphne High School Trojans’ football state championship.

The Trojans defeated Hoover Friday night 7-6 to win the class 6A state championship, and Mayor Fred Small requested that a parade permit be given to honor the team for their undefeated championship season.

“It’s a really good accomplishment,” Councilman August Palumbo said.

The victory parade will begin at the Daphne Civic Center and end at City Hall.

There will also be a school assembly at 8:20 a.m. Thursday at Daphne High School to recognize the team and present the championship plaque. Superintendent Dr. Alan Lee, Baldwin County Executive Principal Don Blanchard, Alabama High School Athletic Association Executive Director Steve Savarese, city council members and county commissioners will be present.

Small said he will have a proclamation to give to the team honoring the championship, and council members said they wanted to write congratulatory letters to DHS and Spanish Fort High School.

The Toros also won a state championship, defeating Briarwood Christian Thursday 14-0 to earn the class 5A football crown.

“I don’t know how often it happens where sister cities come in first place and win state titles,” Councilman Derek Boulware said.

“It was a great two days for Baldwin County,” Small said, adding that he and Spanish Fort Mayor Joe Bonner discussed doing separate events honoring each particular team and then possibly doing a joint event.
