DAPHNE, Alabama — The Tigers and Trojans traded home wins and road losses over the weekend in 6A Area 3 baseball, but were unable to complete the tie-break game due to rain Saturday afternoon. The game will only be played if necessary to determine area or playoff status at the end of the regular season.
Daphne came back Saturday with a 4-3 win after an 11-3 loss at Baldwin County High Friday for an official head-to-head split in the area standings.
The Trojans’ Tyler Lowery went seven innings on the mound, scattered four hits with three runs of damage while his offense scored all four DHS runs in the bottom of the first inning Saturday and held on for the home win. Lowery struck out five Tigers and walked one.
James Reyner and Tanner Lee led the DHS bats with three hits each, Stephen Williams had two hits while Adam Daniel had a triple and two RBIs. James Salter and Andre Cox each had a triple for BCHS. Cox drove in a pair of runs.
In Bay Minette Friday night, Kyle Buck threw five two-hit innings for the Tigers and added four RBIs off two triples and a single to lead BCHS at the plate as well. Buck walked five, however, and gave up all three Daphne runs, including a home run by Daniel.
Tiger reliever Brandon Goins finished innings six and seven without allowing a hit or a run and had four strike outs. Nate Jones went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for BCHS.
DHS (8-10, 2-4) is playing in the Gulf Coast Classic this week and will finish the 6A Area 3 schedule with the Fairhope series which starts April 4 at DHS at 6 p.m. The Tigers (7-13, 3-3) are scheduled to return to action April 8 when they host Gulf Shores.
