BAY MINETTE – The Daphne Trojans came ready to play as they left a path of destruction in their wake by defeating county rival Baldwin County High School 42-0 on Friday.
The Trojans scored two touchdowns in the opening minute of the game with a five-yard touchdown run up the middle by T.J. Yeldon and a blocked punt in the end zone from the Daphne special teams.
Baldwin County could not muster a come back as Daphne scored again with another six-yard run from Yeldon with 3:41 left in the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter the power of TJ Yeldon once again came through for the Trojans as he scored another touch down with a 36-yard run, giving Daphne the 28-0 lead in the first quarter.
With first and ten on its own 39 Daphne fumbled the ball and Dalton Overstreet recovered for BCHS. But what seemed like a momentum shift was short lived as Baldwin County fumbled the ball, allowing Daphne's Robert Nettles to grab the ball. The Trojans then marched down the field and scored their fifth touchdown of the night from a six-yard run to the left side by Israel Lamprakes. Daphne scored the last touchdown of the night in the third quarter off a 35-yard punt return from Torren McGaster giving the Trojans the 0-42 victory.
"I am proud of the effort these guys showed tonight, “ Daphne coach Glenn Vickery said. “BCHS always seems to be important to our guys."
Daphne comes home for their first home game of the season Friday against South Baldwin rival Foley while BCHS travels across the bay to face McGill-Toolen. Both games will start at 7 p.m.
