DAPHNE, Ala. – Daphne took a big 6A Area 3, home-court win 55-49 over Fairhope at Trojan Gym Friday night.

The Pirates got off to a 10-6 lead to close the first quarter at Daphne, but the Trojans rallied for a 22-point second and led 28-22 at the half.

Daphne pulled further away with a 10-0 run early in the third, then held off a 20-point burst by the Pirates in the fourth.

Daphne coach Cedric Yelding said his team did a good job of not allowing Fairhope to maintain control of the tempo.

“They kept us from pushing it for a while,” he said. "But we got back into our game tempo which is a little bit faster and got it done. But we still need to do a better job of finishing. Happy to get a win, and an area win also. But need to be clicking better by this point. We still have work to do.”

Fairhope coach Andy Ryan said his team did a good job of recovering after falling behind by as much as 15 points. But poor rebounding hurt down the stretch.

“We didn't rebound well enough on the defensive end and didn't make them pay for how aggressive they were attacking on the boards,” Ryan said. “We played with a little more intensity, made some shots, put some threes together that helped us cut into the lead. I'm proud of our kids for fighting back, but Daphne played well and they deserve credit for the win. Now we'll get ready for Foley on Friday.”

Preston Solomon scored 17 points and Vance Jenkins added 12 to lead Daphne.

T.J. Yeldon had seven, Tyler Birch six, Chris Sain five and Justin Jackson four for the Trojans (9-5, 2-0 in 6A Area 3).

Tripp Drummond scored 15 points, Jerome Jackson 13, Nate Andrews 12 and Donovan Dale four for the Pirates (12-8, 0-2 in 6A Area 3).

Fairhope will host Foley (3-12, 0-3) Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the Trojans will host Robertsdale (13-7, 3-0) Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Daphne was 2-of-8 at the free-throw line. Fairhope was 9-for-15.
