MOBILE, Ala. — Daphne, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A in in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association poll improved to 25-3 overall and won their fourth tournament of the season at Faith Academy. The Trojans went 5-0 in the Rams' invitational, defeating Spanish Fort 2-0 in the championship game.

On Friday, Daphne beat Spanish Fort 4-1 and Faith Academy 7-0. On Saturday, Daphne defeated Mary G. Montgomery twice by scores of 5-2 and 5-0, before beating the Toros in the title game. For the tournament, Aspyn Godwin went 8-15 to deliver two home runs, two doubles, six RBIs, and eight runs. Makenna Pierce went 8-14 with three doubles, three RBIs, and four runs. Karsen Pierce went 6-10 with two doubles, four RBIs, and a walk. Kennedy Cronan went 6-12 with a double, RBI, and a run scored.

On the mound, Reagan Watkins (10-2) went 3-0 in the tournament. She pitched 16 innings, allowed ten hits, gave up 0 runs, and struck out 26.

Makenna Pierce (12-1) went 1-0, pitched 5 innings, and had 3 strikeouts. Karsen Pierce (3-0) went 1-0, pitched 6 innings, and had 2 strikeouts. Watkins now has 121 strikeouts for the season, while Makenna Pierce has 100 strikeouts.

The Trojans are hosting a rematch of their season-opener with Milton, Fla. Saturday, April 8 at 2 p.m.

Daphne has won 12 straight games since an Area 2 loss to Spanish Fort. It’s the first No. 1 ranking in school history for the Trojans who have one 6A state runner-up softball trophy in their showcase, but so far has never won the blue-map hardware. The pitching of right-hander Makenna Pierce (12-1) and lefty Reagan Watkins (11-2) has no doubt been a factor along with the offensive attack led by Kennedy Cronan ( hitting .500), Pierce (.402), MC Sweatt (.365) and Aspyn Godwin (.341). Daphne is batting .320 as a team and notched 20 home runs.
