Daphne’s Al Trione Sports Complex endures storm damage

DAPHNE, Ala.—The Al Trione Sports Complex received at least $75,000 worth of damage from Saturday’s storm, recreation director David McKelroy said.

“We took a major hit with the Trione sports complex from the storm,” he said. “It blew the center-field fences, and at least two of them are down flat.”

McKelroy said the city will need to replace all damaged bleachers and baseball fences, plus miscellaneous damage, because the city is “assuming too much liability” if they try to fix the items.

“I think I lost eight out of 14 bleachers,” McKelroy said, also noting that he thinks the winds reached above 70 mph. “One set of bleachers that can seat 150 people and cost around $17,000, it was blown or rolled over 100 feet … We almost lost the roof to the concession stand.”
