Songwriter and performer David Wilcox is scheduled for his only show on the Gulf Coast on Thursday, February 28th at the Pavillion at COTA (Church of the Apostles).
Wilcox is a true America treasure. If still somewhat undiscovered by a larger audience. He has sold over 750,00 discs and has been writing songs for 30 years: "I write like my life depends on it."
Wilcox's songs are a strong elixir. Music, distilled . . . as some will describe it. His style mixes brilliant guitar with strong baritone vocals and deft lyrics, creating a unique blend of pop and modern American folk vibes.
David believes that the right song at the right time changes people's lives:
"I have always sung the songs that kept me sane. I love music that moves me, but only if it moves me forward. I don't want to sing songs that stay stuck in the same old illusions that fooled me before. I trust that when a song really moves me, it moves me because it is coming from a place I am going. Each song is like a postcard that inspires me to travel, but instead of just a snapshot of a place, it's a preview of a whole different way of seeing. Through songs, I get to know who I might become, because I experience a joy and peace and gratitude that I know are possible; all I have to do is go the distance."
The Wilcox tour is squeezing in this lone stop on the Gulf Coast -- between a constant concert schedule between the midwest, northeast and California -- with a 7:00 pm showtime Feb. 28th at the Pavillion (7159 McIntyre St., Fairhope). His only nearest tour dates to our region are in Memphis and Lafayette, LA. Ticket cost is $20 and can be purchased online here.
