Alabama District 96 State Rep. Randy Davis has given a Community Service Grant of $3,500 to the Daphne Public Library to use for equipment or educational needs.
The library has used the funds to purchase educational nonfiction DVDs on grammar, science, geography, math and space, as well as books on CD for children.
Grammar DVDs cover topics including descriptive words and phrases, nouns, punctuation, sentences and verbs.
Physical science basics are covered in three sets of DVDs for kindergarten through second grade, third through fifth and sixth through eighth grades.
Children can learn more about John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin, Sam Adams, Abraham Lincoln and other Revolutionary War figures on social science DVDs.
Topics including geographic perspectives, human and physical systems, places and regions, and the world in spatial terms are covered on geographic studies DVDs.
The math series covers addition, subtraction, geometry and algebra.
Space DVDs cover all the planets, stars, the moon, space travel and more.
Books on CD purchased with the grant include many contemporary children’s classics and local favorites such as “Arthur,” “Boxcar Children” and Nancy Drew mysteries.
