DAPHNE, Ala. — The selection committee for Daphne High’s new Hall of Fame has extended the deadline for submitting nominations for the Class of 2008 until Friday, July 18.

A first-of-its-kind alumni recognition program for Baldwin County, according to a spokesperson, the Daphne High Hall of Fame will honor outstanding graduates who excelled in any field during their high school careers. Areas recognized include athletics, academics and the arts.

Former Daphne High teachers, administrators and coaches are also eligible for selection. In addition, community members who have made significant contributions to the school may be recognized as associate members.

Nominations are now being accepted for any student who graduated from Daphne High between 1990 and 1999.

The total number of honorees to be named in 2008 will be limited to 20.

Winners will be announced on Thursday evening, Sept. 4, at a gala dinner to be held in Trojan Hall, the school’s new fine arts center. A pre-game presentation of the honorees is planned for Friday night, Sept. 5, when the Trojans take on Mitchell High of Memphis.

The Daphne High School Hall of Fame is being established in conjunction with the school’s 20th anniversary celebration. All former students, faculty members and other friends of Daphne High are invited to recommend deserving individuals.
