Calling all artists!

It is once again time to prepare for the next Shrimp Festival.  The Chamber is seeking artists to submit original artwork for consideration in the 2011 Annual National Shrimp Festival poster contest.  The 40th Annual National Shrimp Festival presented by Zatarain’s will be held Oct. 13-16, 2011 in Gulf Shores. Deadline for submission is March 4, 2011.

Contest guidelines

 When designing the piece of art, the Chamber urges artist to keep in mind that the poster is a vital element to the success of the festival. The artwork that is chosen will not only become the official poster, but it will also add to the development of the retail merchandise.

 Artwork must incorporate the following elements:

•  Festival Themes:  Art, Food, and Music;
•  Festival Year:  2011;
• Festival Location:  Gulf Shores, Ala.;
• Name of Festival: 40th Annual National Shrimp Festival;

 Artist should also consider the following:

•  Festival is a community event;
•  Located on the beach;
• The 2011 Festival is a “reunion” year;
• Poster is a collectible item and typically purchased for framing & displaying in homes and businesses across the country.

 Artist should design artwork with the use of bold colors.

 Actual size of the poster artwork must be 18 inches horizontal by 24 inches vertical.

 If selected, artist agrees to relinquish ownership of artwork and it becomes sole property of Alabama Gulf Coast Area Chamber of Commerce and the Annual National Shrimp Festival and may or may not be used in any manner the Chamber desires without further compensation to the artist. 

 If selected, artist agrees to sign and number 250 prints within 30 days of request.

 If selected, commissioned artist will receive one payment of $1,000.  If under the age of 18, artist must have parent’s signature on contract to receive prize money.

 If submissions do not meet the proper criteria or are deemed unsuitable for the intended purpose of the poster, the Chamber reserves the right not to select a winner from the submissions and not award prize money.

 Artist will be required to attend the 2011 Festival, Oct. 13-16 at least one day to sign posters or other souvenirs for Festival attendees.

Entry deadline is 5 p.m., March 4.
