James Preston “Butch” Delavan, 88, a native of Alma, Mich., and a resident of Gulf Shores, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II; retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Alma, Mich., and moved to Gulf Shores where he worked at the Gulf State Park at the Old Pier for several years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosetta Mae Delavan; brothers, John W. Delavan and Fred L. Delavan; and sisters, Mary C. Delavan and M. Margaret Snyder.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Phil) Cowdrey of Lake City, Mich., and Elizabeth Palmer of Gulf Shores; son, Bruce (Sarah) Delavan of St. James City, Fla.; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later time.
Arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home and Crematory, Robertsdale.
