Delores Harwell Pate Merrick

Delores Harwell Pate Merrick, 84, a native of Hattiesburg, Miss. and resident of Summerdale, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2014.

Born July 12, 1930 to Jessie Eugene and Gertrude Porter Harwell, Delores married James Earl Pate in 1947. Following Mr. Pate’s death in 1992, she married Wilson John Merrick of New Jersey in 2002.

Mrs. Merrick was a member of Marlow United Methodist Church in Summerdale.

She was employed as a cosmetic consultant for Rosenberg’s Department Store and secretary and accountant for B.F. Goodrich in Albany, Ga.

She served as president of the Myrtle Grove PTA in Myrtle Grove, Fla., president of the Lillian Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary in Lillian, hostess for Cabaret in the James P. Nix Center in Fairhope and as a volunteer at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley and Thomas Hospital in Fairhope.

Survivors of Mrs. Merrick include her husband, Wilson John Merrick; daughter, Valorie Delores Langan Sams; granddaughters, Brittny Nicole Langan and Cheyenne Abigale Sams; four stepchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Merrick at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014 at Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley.
