Delta boat tour launches Saturday

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Passengers aboard the Blakeley State Park’s eco-tour boat, the Delta Explorer, can expect to see large alligators sunning along the banks of the Tensaw River on Saturday.

Tickets are still available but reservations are filling quickly, park officials said.

This is also the time of year for migratory birds. Passengers on recent tours have spotted osprey, bald eagle, swallow-tail kites and other birds along with spring blossoming plants and trees unique to the wilds of the delta.

Additional walk-on tours are scheduled Wednesday, May 14, and Saturday, May 24. All spring and summer tours are at 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Charter tours are available at any date and time for groups of 25 or more.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children 6-12 and free to children 4-6. Credit cards are accepted for advance sales to ensure seating on the first come-first served walk-ons.

Blakeley State Park is a 2,000-acre historic and nature park located on Highway 225 about 4.5 miles north of U.S. 31 at Spanish Fort.

The Delta Explorer is a 50-passenger covered pontoon boat. Both the boat and its captain are U.S. Coast Guard licensed.
