BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Leah Ann Overstreet, principal at Delta Elementary School since 2004, died Tuesday in a Mobile hospital.

“It is an absolutely devastating loss to the Baldwin County School system, to Delta Elementary School and to the Crossroads and Whitehouse Fork communities," said Baldwin County Schools Superintendent Faron Hollinger. "Mrs. Overstreet has been the absolute epitome of public service. She has just been a fine administrator and dearly loved her work at Delta and was committed to her work at Delta. Faculty and students thought very highly and respected her a great deal.”

Overstreet was first hired by Baldwin County Schools in 1987 as a first grade teacher at Loxley Elementary. After teaching positions that included Kindergarten and third grade, Overstreet worked as an administrative intern for Bay Minette Intermediate and Perdido Elementary schools before becoming principal at Delta Elementary in 2004.

"She was just a fine, fine administrator, but more importantly than that she was a wonderful Christian lady and just a fine person," Hollinger said. “My deepest condolences go out to her husband, her son, her family and her friends. The only way I can describe it is as a very, very sad day for us all.”

The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Bay Minette.
