Delta tour set for Memorial Weekend

SPANISH FORT, Ala.—A two-hour tour of the Tensaw-Mobile River Delta aboard the Blakeley State Park’s eco-tour boat The Delta Explorer is scheduled for Memorial Weekend. The Saturday tour is from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Seating for the “walk-on” tour is on a first-come, first-served basis but tickets may be purchased in advance using major credit cards. Tickets are $22 for adults, $12 for children 6 to 12; and free to children 4 to 6. Rain checks, but no refunds, will be given for advance payments in the event that the boat captain postpones the trip due to weather.

The trip through the rivers and backwaters of the Delta is narrated with opportunities for passengers to see alligators, unusual birds—including infrequent glimpses or bald eagles—and marsh plants.

The 49-passenger boat and its captains are licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard. The covered boat contains a restroom and fixed bench seating. It leaves from the Blakeley Park dock. Passengers frequently bring lunches to eat in the park picnic area after the tour and may enjoy the park until it closes for day use at dusk.
