Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Amber L. Deus, daughter of Paula and Marty Hart of Daphne—along with more than 6, 000 Marines and sailors of the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group (Norfolk, Va.)—are winding down deployment from the Navy’s area of operations in support of Maritime Security Operations and the Global War on Terror.
While deployed, Marines completed sustainment training at Camp Buehring, Kuwait.
They completed wash-down procedures of all vehicles in preparation for transport; each vehicle was washed, removing all dirt, plant materials, insects, animals and any other foreign contaminate that could harm the agricultural production of the United States. The U.S. Department of Agriculture trains service members on proper inspection procedures.
In preparation for coming ashore after a seven-month deployment, they also began motorcycle safety education recommended by the secretary of the Navy and the Naval Safety Center.
Deus is a 2006 graduate of Daphne High School and joined the Marine Corps in October 2006.
