LOXLEY, Ala. — Saturday, Aug. 22 promises to be a big evening at the Loxley Church of God off of Highway 59. The church’s address Is 5220 S. Hickory St. in Loxley.

The church is presenting a dinner theater that evening. Stage Fire Ministries will present “Gospel to the World,” a blend of comedy, drama and song. The troupe is from the Fountain of Life Church and the Lott Road Church of God in Eight Mile.

“They’re doing the whole thing,” said Katherine Breeden, a member of the church’s “J.O.Y.” (Just Older Youths) senior adult group. “The whole group is coming from Mobile, so it has not been seen before, they are doing new stuff.”

Stage Fire Ministries is coordinated by Loxley Church of God members Judy and Perry Fountain.

The evening out will also include dinner. The menu includes roast beef, rice pilaf, fresh corn on the of, green beans Almondine, rolls and congealed salad. Desserts will be chocolate, coconut or pound cakes, all home made, that the ladies say will be done from the same recipes so the cakes will be consistent. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 for a couple. Tickets can be purchased by calling the church office, 964-6604 or by seeing a J.O.Y. member. The deadline to order tickets is Aug. 10.

The evening’s dinner and entertainment is to help the church’s J.O.Y. group go on an excursion this fall to Savannah, Georgia. As of this writing, 15 members had signed up.

“This is a fundraiser, a way to bring the community together,” said Dot Northcutt of Loxley.

“We are hoping to pay for room and board, and we are going to tour the city,” aid Breeden. She added that the group also hoped to tour the Okefenokee swamp on the trip.

“I am really looking forward to the drama,” said Northcutt. “It should be an hour to an hour and a half long, and we will be giving away door prizes.”

The door prizes have been donated by church members and local merchants and include car care items, key tags, body lotions, a wide variety of gift certificates and Christian figurines, Breeden says.

“Our pastor, Herman Knapp, will be doing the drawings,” said Breeden.
