FAIRHOPE, Alabama — Dixie Youth All-Star Baseball action moved up to the District 7 tournament over the weekend at Volanta Park for Ozone (11-12) and AA (Machine pitch 7-8) Divisions.

Meanwhile the AAA (9-10 Minors) All-Star teams got their tournament season under way with sub-district tournaments at Spanish Fort and Saraland.

In AAA play Friday night at Spanish Fort’s Spirit Park Daphne National defeated Zirlott Park of Bayou le Batre 11-1 and Fairhope American topped Spanish Fort American 18-12. On Saturday Spanish Fort American got past Zirlott Park 9-7 and Daphne National took a 3-1 win over Municipal American.

At Amelia Park in Saraland on Friday, Daphne American outscored Municipal National 5-2 while the host team Saraland handed Fairhope National a 9 – 4 loss. Rain delayed or postponed some contests including AA action Sunday at Volanta Park.

The Ozone division, however, got a pair of third-round games in including a home-park showdown between Fairhope American and Fairhope national with the AL All-Stars taking an 8-1 win. Municipal and Saraland NL were set to meet late Sunday night, but scores were not available in time for GCN Sports print edition.

WEEKEND DIXIE YOUTH RESULTS: Municipal defeated Spanish Fort, Saraland AL def. Fairhope AL, Saraland NL def. Zirlott and Daphne def. Fairhope NL.

Saturday: Municipal handed Saraland AL a defeat, Bay Minette topped Citronelle, Fairhope American def. Spanish Fort and Fairhope National knocked Zirlott out of the double-elimination competition.

In AA District play, first-round winners were Fairhope National over Saraland, Fairhope American over Saraland American and Municipal AL over Daphne AL. On Saturday, Fairhope AL advanced with a win over Fairhope NL, Municipal NL def. Municipal AL and Saraland NL eliminated Saraland AL. Sunday games were not complete due to rain.

FINALS SET FOR WEDNESDAY: If weather cooperates, the Ozone finals are set for Wednesday at 6 p.m. — and possibly a second game at 8 p.m., if necessary.
