• Daphne's AA Machine Pitch team wins state title in the Rookie League tournament
DECATUR—Fairhope’s AAA Dixie Youth All-Stars team claimed the 2015 state championship Thursday with a 7-0 win over AUM. Fairhope advanced to the finals with an 8-2 victory over South Bibb Wednesday night in their state tournament at Point Mallard near Decatur. The Fairhope 9-10 team defeated Auburn Municipal 11-7 Tuesday night in the quarterfinals.
South Bibb advanced with a 10-6 win over Dothan American. Semifinal results were not complete in time for this edition. Earlier in the tournament Fairhope defeated Municipal American 6-4, topped Enterprise 11-1 and beat Auburn Orange 13-4. AUM made into the finals with an 18-11 win over Hartsell. Decatur National was the host team.
In the Dixie Boys -14 state tournament in Troy, Spanish Fort's All-Stars made it to the championship game but fell to Dothan 11-6. The state runner-up team from SF made it to the title round with a 5-3 win over Troy in the semifinals Monday, an 18-2 win over Thomasville in the quarterfinals Sunday and took a 3-2 win over Piedmont Saturday. Dothan had handed Spanish Fort their only other loss earlier in the tournament, 10-0.
Fairhope advances to the 2015 Dixie Youth Baseball AAA World Series in Lexington, South Carolina. The team will face North Carolina in the first round Aug. 8. For more on the AAA World Series visit: Dixie Youth.
In other state tournament action Daphne's AA Machine Pitch Rookie League All-Stars won the 2015 state title. Daphne defeated Decatur American 13-1 in the championship game in Oxford July 13.
Troy won the O-Zone state title play at South Bibb. Fairhope’s D’Aundre Matthews hit a 2-run homer against Gordo Sunday, but Gordo won 7-6.
