DAPHNE, Ala.—The D’Olive Bay/Lake Forest Watershed Working Group met Oct. 24 at the Lake Forest Country Club and was lead by state Rep. Randy Davis. The group discussed the November 2008 release of its Request for Qualification for the D’Olive Watershed Management Plan.
The RFQ process is being used to select a firm that can develop and design a conceptual engineering master plan or model based on available data to reduce upstream sediment inputs into D’Olive Bay, Lake Forest Lake, D’Olive/Tiawasee Creek system and also to remediate and restore past effects of these sediment loads. The plan will assist in the reduction of outgoing sediment loads in to D’Olive Bay and the Mobile Bay Estuary, and identify opportunities to mitigate future impacts of development in the watersheds where feasible.
The group, under the guidance of Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, has obtained initial grants of $85,000 to fund the study and expects significant additional commitments in the near term. Current contributors are listed below.
