Dollar General closed after car runs through front door

FOLEY — Foley Fire Department responded to Dollar General at Highway 98 and County Road 65 on May 25 at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The driver of a vehicle drove through the front glass doors of the main entrance to the store. Foley Fire Chief Darby said fortunately there were no injuries to the driver or occupants of the building.

“We discovered that a previous incident with a vehicle had damaged and disabled the emergency exit at the rear of the sales floor, and that door had not been repaired,” Darby explained. “With damage to both ingress and egress points, we required them to close for business until the appropriate repairs can be made, per the fire code.”

There is a sign outside that says, "closed until further notice."

Crystal Ghassemi, corporate communications with Dollar General, released a statement on June 1.

"Based on our current timeline, we do anticipate the store may be closed up to four weeks and we look forward to working together with the city of Foley as repairs are made," she said. "We encourage Foley city and Baldwin County residents to visit our two other nearby locations at 1121 N. McKenzie St., or 1704 S. McKenzie St."
