GULF SHORES – Brandon Gottfried scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Gulf Shores in a 55-31 romp over visiting West Florida on Monday night.
“He is a strong player, a smart player,” Gulf Shores head coach Dru Powell said of Gottfried. “He can get his body in position to make plays and he makes positive things happen.”
Gulf Shores grabbed an early 9-0 lead to start the game. The Dolphins opened with back-to-back three pointers from Bryan Beviacqua and Jake Van Sickler. Van Sickler added a two-point shot and Brandon Silvers made a free throw before West Florida could score.
The Dolphins (4-1) led 20-9 at the end of the first period. They extended the lead to 31-13 by halftime.
“We are very excited about the way we are playing,” Powell said. “Our kids came out and played hard again tonight. We tell them that good things happen when you play hard, and it is great to see it happening in games.”
Van Sickler added 11 points for the Dolphins, and Ryan Godwin had 10. Beviacqua finished with nine points.
Gulf Shores will play at Fairhope on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Dolphins host UMS-Wright on Friday, also at 7:30.

Lady Dolphins beat Jags
GULF SHORES – The Gulf Shores Lady Dolphins defeated the visiting West Florida Lady Jaguars 40-32 on Monday behind 14 points and four blocks from Khadijah Jackson.
After tying the score at 29 early in the fourth period, Gulf Shores closed out the game on an 11-3 run.
West Florida led 15-13 at the half and jumped out to a 21-13 lead on back-to-back three pointers to start the third period. Gulf Shores tied the game at 27 by the end of the period.
Meagan Davis had seven points for Gulf Shores, and Millicent Cassidy added six.
Gulf Shores plays at Fairhope on Thursday at 6 p.m.
