GULF SHORES – A 35-point outburst and dominating defense in the first half pushed Gulf Shores to a 49-6 homecoming win over Wilcox Central on Friday.
The Dolphins (3-2) were led in the first half explosion by quarterback Logan Paul, who completed 12-of-19 passes for 203 yards and three scores and rushed for one touchdown in the first half against the visiting Jaguars.
The Gulf Shores defense held the Jaguars to just 26 yards of offense and one first down in the first half.
The Dolphins scored on their first possession after a 10-play, 78-yard drive. Logan Paul rushed three yards for a touchdown to put Gulf Shores on the board. He completed four passes on the drive, including three for 50 yards to Jonathan Adams.
The Dolphins scored again on their third drive after forcing a Jaguar punt. Paul hit Adams for a 45-yard score. Bryan Beviacqua’s extra point made the score 14-0.
After Wilcox gained its only first half first down, Dylan Searcy sacked the Jaguar quarterback for a loss of five yards and forced a punt. The Dolphins scored six plays later.
Vince Gillium carried five times in six plays for 63 yards and scored from one yard out.
Searcy recovered a fumble at the Wilcox 31 on the Jags’ next possession, and Gulf Shores scored again four plays later on another Paul-to-Adams touchdown pass. Beviacqua’s extra point made the scored 28-0.
Searcy added another sack on the next Jaguar possession, and Wilcox was forced to punt.
Gulf Shores drove 59 yards in five plays for its final score of the first half. Paul hit Kevin Kelso for a 12-yard touchdown with just over one minute left in the half.
Adams finished the first half with seven catches for 134 yards and two scores. Gillium rushed eight times for 72 yards and a touchdown in the first half.
Gulf Shores hosts 5A, Region 1 foe Citronelle on Friday.
