FOLEY, Ala. – The Gulf Shores Dolphins grabbed the lead late in the fourth period and held on to beat the Foley Lions 55-51 on Tuesday night.
Brandon Silvers and Ryan Godwin had 16 points apiece, while Isaac Ronan had 12 and Kendall Annan 9 in the come-from-behind win for Gulf Shores.
“We spread the ball around,” Dolphin coach Dru Powell said. “Our guys are unselfish and they are all team players. We’ve got a great bunch of kids and it is an honor to coach them.”
The Dolphins trailed for the entire first half after Foley jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the first period. Gulf Shores took a lead in the third, only to give it back to Foley on a three-pointer from Malcolm Barnett.
In the fourth period the Dolphins tied the game with a basket from Godwin took the lead again at 2:34 on free throws from Annan. With 30 seconds to play Foley missed a shot off an inbound play and Godwin was fouled on the rebound. He hit both free throws to ice the game.
“I am very proud of the kids,” Powell said. “They played extremely hard. They kept believing an we were able to beat a good Foley team tonight.
“I felt like pushing the ball against their defense and getting some buckets in transition really helped us offensively. And I thought we rebounded the ball much better in the second half than in the in the first half to give ourselves a chance to win the game.”
Rafael Adams had 16 points, while Malcolm Barnett had 12 for Foley in the loss.
The Dolphins (4-4) will play at at UMS-Wright tonight at 7:30 p.m. and at LeFlore next Friday at 7:30 p.m. Foley (1-4) will host Bayside Academy tonight at 7:30 p.m. and at Daphne next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
