The Gulf Shores Dolphins proved to be too much for Vigor, sweeping a doubleheader on Friday at the Gulf Shores Sports Complex.
In game one, junior pitcher Collin Blankenship came close to tossing a perfect five inning game, giving up no hits, allowing only one walk.
Blankenship started off the scoring for Gulf Shores with a two-run shot in the bottom of the first inning.
The Dolphins exteneded their lead in the second with a two RBI double off the bat of Kolby Spicer, and later a homerun with two men on from Austin Carpenter.
Braydon Bateman opened up the bottom of the third with a leadoff homerun, and he added another run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Destin Rivera sealed the 10-run fifth inning win with a sacrifice fly to center.
Spicer led the team offensively going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a single and two RBIs. Carpenter was 2-for-3 with a homer, a single and three RBIs.
Game two was more of the same for the Dolphins.
After the first two batters walked and Carpenter singled in a run, senior third baseman Chad Hartley hit a two-RBI double. Hartley later scored on a wild pitch, giving the Dolphins a 4-0 lead after just one inning. Carpenter and Hartley drove in one run each in the second, and Kevin Kelso knocked in two more with a triple to extend the lead to 8-0.
In the third inning, Chad Peterson and Kolby Spicer both scored off of wild pitches, and Carpenter and Blankenship each drove in another run.
Ryan Hadley, Clayton Gates, and Blankenship all drove in a run in the bottom of the fourth to seal the five inning 15-1 win for the Dolphins and pitcher Chad Peterson.
