FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Senior quarterback Chase Domino led Fairhope on an 80-yard scoring drive and powered his way into the endzone for the go ahead score with 1:36 left in the game as the Pirates topped St. Paul's 49-35 on Friday.

Fairhope (4-1) led St. Paul's (4-1) 35-14 at the half, but the Saints tied the game at 35 at the end of the third quarter. St. Paul's missed a field goal with 4:29 to play in the fourth, and that's when Domino and the Pirate offense took over.

"We knew that we had to drive down the field to win, so we came out and started doing what we were doing in the first half again," Domino said. "We came out and blocked the way we needed to block and ran the plays the way we needed to run them. Great play calling by the coaches and we were able to put it in the endzone. Great win."

On second and goal at the 1, Domino followed blocks by Bryan Bell and Duke Milton up the middle and charged over the goal line. Nick Cutrone's extra point put the Pirates up 42-35 with 1:36 left to play.

On the ensuing St. Paul's drive with 49.8 seconds left, Dre Ervin picked off a pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown that sealed the win for Fairhope.

Fairhope capitalized on tremendous field position in the first half, with four of its five first half scoring drives starting at its own 42, 46, 46 and at the St. Paul's 22. Domino had a touchdown pass and touchdown run in the first half, and Tanner Martin and Brent McDonald had touchdown runs. St. Paul's started the second half with a 53-yard scoring drive capped by a Jordan Huff touchdown run. The Saints blocked a Fairhope punt and Huff scored from 36 yards on the next play. St. Paul's tied the game at 35 at the end of the third when Huff scored his fourth touchdown on a 9-yard run.

"What can I say about these games against St. Paul's? You definitely get your money's worth," Fairhope coach David Faulkner said. "(St. Paul's) are a heck of a football team and they did a great job with Jordan Huff and that offensive line. They did what they had to do and just kept pounding and pounding. We've gotta find a way to come out and play better in the second half. We can't continue to have great first halves then come out and lay an egg in the second."

Domino finished with 187 yards passing and a touchdown pass to Nate Andrews and scored two rushing touchdowns. Martin rushed 18 times for 122 yards and a touchdown. Huff finished with 234 yards rushing and four scores for the Saints.

Fairhope hosts Robertsdale in 6A Region 2 play on Friday, while St. Paul's hosts Vigor in a 5A Region 1 game.
