Don Jay Nevels, 72, a native of Brookhaven, Miss., and resident of Foley died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at his residence in Foley surrounded by family.
Mr. Nevels was a graduate of Mississippi State University and a long-time employee of the Mississippi Forestry Commission with 34 years of service. In 1999 he retired to Foley. Don was a member of the Wolf Bay Water Watch, the American Legion, and the Elks Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors.
Mr. Nevels was preceded in death by his parents, Williard P. Nevels and Christine Carlisle Nevels; brother, Jack Nevels; and sisters, Jean Furlow and Genny Wright.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Nevels of Foley; daughters, Stacey Nevels of Brookhaven, Miss., and Kelly (Marc) Herrington of Brandon, Miss.; grandchildren, Cooper Herrington and Cambell Herrington of Brandon, Miss.; sister, Kay(Edd) Milam of Starkville, Miss., and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 at the Gulf Coast Elks Lodge, Foley.
