Donald “HARPER” Hughes, 30, of Loxley, departed this world on Nov. 20, 2015 at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born on March 27, 1985 in Birmingham. When he was 4 years old his family moved to Baldwin County.
Harper was the only child of Donnie and Lisa Hughes. Harper attended Foley schools until high school where he then attended Robertsdale High School. After graduating from Robertsdale in 2003, Harper attended Faulkner State Community College.
Harper loved going fishing and hanging out at the beach. He was a huge Alabama fan and loved watching them play football on Saturdays.
Harper was known for his contagious smile and his kind heart. He never met a stranger, and was everyone’s best friend. People often said he was the kindest person they had ever known.
He loved telling jokes and making others smile. He was a friend to everyone and would never do anything to hurt someone’s feelings.
Even though he was plagued with health issues from a very young age, he always remained positive and he always smiled. He taught people by his own actions to never give up and to be thankful for life itself.
He loved his family and friends with all of his heart. The world was a better place because of Harper and his sweet, kind spirit.
He is survived by his parents, Donnie and Lisa Hughes; his grandmother, Nancy Hughes; his aunts, Dawne Boswell and Darlene Whitten; his uncles, Darrell Hughes and Scottie and Tony Harper; his cousins, Kyle Boswell and Alex Harper; a host of close friends and other loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Don Hughes Sr. and Bud Harper; his grandmother, Jean Harper; and his uncle, William Boswell.
A celebration of Harper’s life will be held on Sunday, Nov. 29 at Foley Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive visitors from 2:30-3:15 and the service will begin at 3:30.
The family requests no flowers, but donations can be made to a local cancer center. Harper was a patient at the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute In Fairhope.
