Donald T. “Captain Don” Lund, 71, passed away at home Nov. 15, 2013, surrounded by family and friends.

Don was born Aug. 26, 1942 in Aitkin, Minn. to Elmer and Edith Garlinghouse Lund. He was raised in Minnesota, but retired to the beautiful, warm beach area of Foley.

Don started his career as a television producer with KDAL in Duluth, Minn. He retired from a 45-year career in the food service industry, last working with Shoney’s in their Captain D’s division.

Captain Don provided team-trivia and karaoke shows for 18 years in Tifton and Moultrie, Ga., where he was loved by all. He continued doing so in Foley at the Elks Lodge.

He loved music and loved to sing. He was honored as Elk of the Year for 2012-2013.

He graduated from high school in 1960 in Hermantown, Minn., and attended the University of Minnesota in Duluth. He graduated from Brown Institute of Broadcasters in Minneapolis, Minn.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James, Bob and David Lund; and sister, Mary Lund-Gay.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Smith Lund; sons, Erik (Rebecca) Lund of Greenwood, Ind. and Jonathan “Chip” (Michele) Cotham of Tifton, Ga.; daughter, Emily (Michael) Tondreau of Gloversvile, N.Y.; sisters, Margaret Kinney of Prior Lake, Minn., Ruth Hippler of Cambridge, Minn. and Anne Lund of O’Fallon, Mo.; and seven grandchildren, Krysta, Trent, Jordan, Rickey and Joseph Cotham, and Alexandra Lund and Samuel Tondreau.

The visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013 at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley.

The funeral service will held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at the chapel of Pine Rest Funeral Home, with the interment to follow in Pine Rest Memorial Park.

A reception will follow the services at Gulf Coast Elks Lodge No. 2782, 2621 S. Juniper St. in Foley.

The family would like to thank Dr. Buckley and staff at Cardiologist Associates and the staff of Covenant Hospice for their help during this time of need.
