Donald William Gorss, 87, born Jan. 17, 1923 in Montgomery, N.Y., a lifelong resident of Montgomery and Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y., until moving to Gulf Shores and Sabael, N.Y., in 1989, died Nov. 26, 2010 at his home in Gulf Shores.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces as a B24 and B17 pilot during World War II.
He co-owned and operated Gorss Flying Service in Montgomery in the late 1940s, then GORSS Chevrolet in Cornwall-on-Hudson and Walden, N.Y., for 21 years with his brother Gerald Gorss.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mayme Osterhoudt Gorss, and father, Frederick Gorss; sister, Alma Greening; and brother, Gerald Gorss.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Eleanor Baty Gorss; two sons, Jeffrey (Margaret) Gorss of Greenfield Center, N.Y., and Jeremy Gorss of Sabael, N.Y.; two daughters Jane (Gregory) Prine of Foley and Lois (John) Nixon of Gustavus, Ark.; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 4 at the First Presbyterian Church, Gulf Shores.
