Edwin A. Dornow, 92, a native of Allegany, N.Y., and resident of Loxley, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010.
He was a 1935 graduate of Allegany High School and received his pharmacy degree at the University of Buffalo in 1939. He began employment in the pharmacy business in Olean, N.Y., and Allegany until being called for service during World War II.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the LST 49 and fought during the invasion of Normandy; then joined his fathering operating Dornow’s Drug Store in Allegany, N.Y., later becoming owner for many years until he sold the business in the late 1970s; worked in the pharmacy department at the Olean General Hospital for several more years before retiring; and was a member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Muriel R. Dornow and Jessie Allison Dornow; one grandson, Bill Wilson II and one great-grandson, David Earl Dustin.
Survivors include two daughters, Dona L. (Bruce) Lauser of Loxley and Elizabeth L. (Rev. William) Wilson of Scio, N.Y.; step-daughter, Cynthia Rae (Patrick) Kennedy of Obi, N.Y.; step-son, Allison George (Marcia) Parker of Wilson, N.C.; five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren and four step-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Allegany, N.Y. Burial will follow at Allegany Cemetery.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Silverhill.
