Dorothy Juanita Chance, 86, a native of Knoxville, Tenn. and resident of Fairhope, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014.
Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister with a servant’s heart.
At her husband’s side as a career Navy wife, she served as president of the Navy Wives Club and did short-term missions in the Ryukyu Islands.
She also served as choir director for the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Sanford, Fla.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Alfred B. Chance Sr. of Fairhope; two daughters, Cathey C. Kirkland (Kerry) of Birmingham and Linda C. Ray (Darrell) of Waxahachie, Texas; a son, Dr. Alfred B. Chance Jr. (Peggy) of Montrose; four sisters, Joyce Carnes, Wanda Large, Sybil Cagley and Marjorie Long, all of Knoxville, and Gwen Wallace of Winter Park, Fla.; a brother, Harold Large of Knoxville; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday, March 28, 2014, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
