Dorothy Lois Guier Paul

Dorothy Lois Guier Paul was born Feb. 21, 1924 in Wilkes Barre, Pa. to William and Adeline Moyer Guier.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane Frederick Paul; her siblings, Stewart Guier and Shirley Guier Andrews; and two grandchildren, Jay Dallas and Rochelle Lehman.

Survivors include her children, Deanna Kane of Kingsport, Tenn., Dawn Mancina (Anthony) of Berthoud, Colo., Deborah Dallas of Mio, Mich., Dennis Paul (Debra),of Atlantis, Fla., Denise Janes (William) of Loxley and Dean Paul of Lake Worth, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her family moved to Detroit, Mich. from Pennsylvania in 1926. Dorothy graduated in 1941 from Denby High School in Detroit.

She then worked as a secretary, and was a USO volunteer during WWII. She met her husband of nearly 68 years, Duane, at a USO function during WWll. They were married Nov. 13, 1943.

Dorothy and Duane raised six children on a dairy farm in the Waterloo area of Grass Lake, Mich.

The couple started two businesses together — Waterloo Golf Course, which still operates and was founded in 1964 and a Dairy Queen several years later.

Dorothy was a warm, beautiful and talented homemaker and mother. She was a wonderful cook and talented seamstress.

Dorothy farmed with her husband, growing and preserving most of the family’s food.

When the children were grown, Dorothy became a certified executive housekeeper at Chelsea Community Hospital in Chelsea, Mich. She excelled in that position.

After retirement they traveled extensively. They built their home in Loxley in 1989, enjoying the climate.

Dorothy then focused her energies on quilting and was masterful. She created many beautiful quilts, which were gifts to family and friends.

Recently, as a resident at Eastern Shore she kept active by putting together puzzles and preserving them as wall art for gifts to remember her by.

Dorothy held her faith as a lifetime Lutheran, and was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Daphne.

Mrs. Paul will be honored with a celebration of life at a future date.
