DAPHNE, Ala. — Bayside juniors Will Dorriety and Dennis Dowd have been selected to attend the prestigious Naval Academy Summer Seminar and the United States Military Academy Summer Leaders Seminar, respectively.
Dorriety was invited to attend NASS based on his superior academic performance, his achievements in athletics and extracurricular activities and his character. During the six-day seminar in Annapolis, Md., Dorriety will become a part of the academy. He will live in the dormitory in which all Academy midshipmen live, participate in academic and leadership workshops, and experience a variety of other activities on the campus.
“I’m really excited about being accepted into the summer seminar,” Dorriety said. “I think this will be a great opportunity for me to grow as a student and as a citizen.”
Dowd was selected as one of 800 high school juniors to attend SLS at West Point, N.Y., in June, based on academics, athletics and extracurricular activities. During his time at West Point, Dowd will participate in academic seminars, military training, physical fitness training and intramural athletics.
“I’ve always been interested in the military, and I feel like attending this summer program will help me decide whether or not a future at West Point is right for me,” Dowd said.
