FAIRHOPE, Ala.—Brooke Dotson signed to play tennis with Spring Hill College in Mobile.
“Brook is a great team player and has been a real leader for our team,” said Fairhope tennis coach Tori Johnson. “She’s very competitive and understands the sport of tennis and is a good strategic player. She loves the sport and has passion for it. She works very hard to get better in all aspects of the game. Brooke always gives her all whether at practice or a match and encourages her teammates to work hard and improve.
Dotson plans to enter the chemical engineering program at Spring Hill and eventually transfer to Auburn to finish her Bachelor’s degree.
“I try to be a consistent player on the court,” Dotson said. “I'm not a real powerful hitter so I concentrate on making well-placed shots. Mix them up when I can, but mainly try to be steady and make each one count.”
Johnson had three tennis players sign this year: Adams, Dotson and Heather Tabor who signed with Huntingdon.
“I don’t know of any schools that have had three in one class sign to play tennis,” she said. “It doesn’t happen a lot. It does say a lot about the dedication of the kids and the quality of the instruction they get in this area. Like anything, though, you have to put in the time and hard work to get to this level. Just being athletic will only get you so far. Same is true for the academics. These girls put in the time with the books, too. Obviously, or they wouldn’t be signing to play at the next level.”
