Thomas Zachry “Zack” Dowdle, 70, a native of Union, Miss., and resident of Daphne for 32 years, died Saturday, June 26, 2010.
He was a 1958 graduate of Vigor High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Russian instructor and interpreter. He was employed by Scott Paper Company with 35 years of service and after his retirement he worked as a bartender in Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Coyt and Lena Zachry Dowdle; and two sisters, Jackie Henry and Sue Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Shepherd Dowdle of Daphne; daughter, Tami Dowdle Neiber of Orlando, Fla.; four sons, Tim (Mina) Dowdle of Orlando, Greg Dowdle of Fairhope, Mike Dowdle of Daphne and Chad Dowdle of Hattiesburg, Miss.; grandson, Lucas Dowdle of Foley; two sisters, Dolores Byers of Dothan and Linda (Mike) Oliver of Fairhope; a brother, Bill (Jennie) Dowdle Yuma of Arizona, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation begins at 9 a.m. with a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 30 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne with the Rev. Matthew O’Connor as celebrant. Private burial will be at Belforest Catholic Cemetery.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
