Dr. D. Keith Cooper, 82, a native and longtime resident of Robertsdale, passed away peacefully at home Friday, Dec. 5, 2014.
Dr. Cooper was a 1950 graduate of Robertsdale High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and was stationed in Japan.
In 1957 Dr. Cooper received his degree from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa and returned to Robertsdale, making a lifelong career practicing chiropractic.
In his professional arena, Dr. Cooper was a founding member and past president of the Baldwin County Chiropractic Society. He was also a board member and later the executive secretary of the Alabama State Board of Chiropractic Examiners. In addition, Dr. Cooper was a past chairman of the Alabama State Chiropractic Association and was honored for his commitment and service to his profession.
Dr. Keith was a person who enjoyed working with his friends and community.
He was a dedicated Rotarian as exemplified by his perfect attendance record of 57 years and involvement in many Rotary Club projects. Rotarian Keith always strived to live up to the Rotary motto of “service above self.”
Dr. Cooper’s professional and personal philosophy was to maintain health in as natural way as possible. At age 50 he pushed his own fitness level up a notch by beginning to participate in runs, triathlons and a few marathons. He also was coordinator of numerous races and events, often to benefit
the ARC-Baldwin County, an association he held close to his heart.
Dr. Cooper appreciated the arts and enjoyed performing at the South Baldwin Community Theatre in Gulf Shores, Mobile Theatre Guild and Pensacola Little Theatre.
As an active community leader he was a member and involved with the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce and the Robertsdale Industrial Board.
He will be missed by family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 40 years, Margaret Cooper of Robertsdale; children, Dana Cooper of Robertsdale, Mark (Brenda) Cooper of Marlow, Todd Cooper of Robertsdale, Lyle (Denise) Cooper of Gulf Shores, Drew (Jenee) Cooper of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Lori Cooper of Pensacola and Kara Cooper of Robertsdale; two sisters, Kathryn (Valna) Hinote and Claudia Swinney, both of Loxley; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 15, 2015 at 2 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Robertsdale, with a reception to follow at St. Patrick’s Center.
