Dr. Gilbert Leslie Morris passed away into the hands of our Blessed Lord Jesus on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016.
In Heaven he was joyously reunited with Mimi, his wife of 66 years, who died two years ago. He also joined his son, Alan; his granddaughter, Laura Smith; and other members of his family.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lynn Morris and Stacy Morris Smith; his grandchildren, Dixie Morris-Downs (Brad), Andrea Smith Marrero (Eric), Zackary Alan Morris (Tierney) and Grant Anderson. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Harrison, Bennett, Emmaline and Adelle Marrero, Jackson Gilbert Downs, Zechariah Morris and Aubree Anderson.
Gilbert was a man with an active, busy, charitable life, and the memories of him will be wide and varied. To his daughters, even long after they reached adulthood, he was always “Daddy.” To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and also to some of the younger friends he had, he was their beloved “Boppa.” To his close friends, and he had that rare gift for retaining friends for many years, he was “Gilbert.” To his thousands of fans, he will be remembered as one of their favorite authors, for he wrote more than 200 books of Christian fiction.
He has left a legacy for his family, friends and fans, and he will be missed by those of us who remain.
A memorial service will be held at Pine Rest in Foley, Ala. on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016 at 11 a.m.
