Dr. James H. “Jim” Coats, a native of Mobile and citizen of Bay Minette for 34 years, died unexpectedly on Aug. 12, 2010.

He was a life-long educator, having taught and mentored students for over 44 years.

Survivors include his wife, Chris K. Coats of Bay Minette; son, Dr. Jeffrey H. (Rebecca) Coats of Enterprise; daughter, Kelley Coats (Trent) Newell of Hope Hull; brother, D. Frederick Coats of Marion, N.C.; sister, Rita Webb of Mobile; one sister-in-law, Kathy Coats of Mobile; five nieces and five nephews.

A Celebration of life was held on Monday, Aug. 16, at the First Baptist Church of Bay Minette. Graveside services were held at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
