Drivers urged to be cautious at new Summerdale Beach Express intersection

SUMMERDALE, Ala. — The intersection of County Road 32 and Baldwin Beach Expressway looks a little different than it did just a few months ago.

“The eastbound and westbound traffic has to stop at stop signs,” said Summerdale Police Chief Jimmy Davis in a recent interview. “Northbound and southbound traffic does not.”

He explained that this change in traffic flow can be confusing.

“It’s just a safety concern,” the chief said.

Another concern Davis has is that at the center of that intersection, the pavement slopes to an apex, which makes it even more important that travelers reaching the stop signs actually come to a full halt.

“It’s a very large intersection,” he said.

And in the year since Davis has been in office, traffic along 32 has increased significantly.

But that’s not the only road he has seen become congested.

“The traffic on (Alabama Highway) 59 is busier than in years past,” Davis said.

With this in mind, the police chief asks drivers to slow down and use caution.

“The town’s growing,” Davis said.
