ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — After a month of undercover work by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department along with the Baldwin County Drug Task Force, James Leroy Harris, 37, of Mobile, was arrested on Thursday night, June 16, and charged with one count of Drug Trafficking and other charges to come. He is currently being held at the Baldwin County Correctional Facility in Bay Minette on $1,000,000 bond.
Alone at the time of his arrest at Ashley Gates apartments in Daphne, two kilograms of powder cocaine in bags and bricks along with $5,000 in cash, an AR-15 Assault Rifle and 9mm handgun were seized as well as several drug scales, three bottles of Lortab prescription drugs, a purple drink mixture laced with drugs and two vehicles, a 2007 silver Nissan Maxima and a 2006 red BMW.
A press conference was held at the BCSO in Robertsdale on Friday with Sheriff Huey “Hoss” Mack, Major Anthony Lowery, members of the District Attorney’s office and Drug Task Force in attendance.
“This is the culmination of undercover drug distribution and surveillance from the sheriff's department along with Daphne Police Department and the drug task force officer from Loxley Police Department. It is unusual to find someone with this much powder cocaine on him. This is a serious problem and has been on the increase over the past couple of years,” said Mack.
According to Mack, Harris, a career criminal, had already been convicted on a prior Attempted Drug Trafficking charge in Mobile County and was set to serve an 18 month sentence beginning in two weeks. “The investigation is ongoing and we feel like there may be more charges to come as we proceed with the investigation.”
The vehicles will be stored for now and processed through the court system, Mack said, and either used as undercover vehicles or sold at a police auction. A bond hearing was scheduled Monday for Harris.
Danielle Fawn Wilson, 25, of 14461 Brook Hollow Road in Summerdale was also arrested on Thursday and charged with one count of Drug Trafficking of Marijuana, one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance and one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and being held on $1.6 million bond at the Baldwin County Correctional Facility in Bay Minette.
Lowery said she along with her husband, Jason Patrick Wilson, 27, were growing the marijuana in pots at their residence and at the time of arrest had eight pounds in their possession. Wilson turned himself in on Saturday and was charged with one count of Drug Trafficking and one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is currently being held at the Baldwin County Correctional Facility in Bay Minette on $1.1 million dollar bond.
More information will follow as the investigations continue.
