Della Pearl Harrell Dukes, 88, a native of Chilton County and a resident of Foley, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007.
She graduated from Robertsdale High School and married Lewis M. Dukes of Sheffield in 1945. They lived in the Washington D.C. area for 24 years. In 1969 Lewis Dukes retired from the U.S. Department of Justice and Pearl Dukes retired from Bell Telephone Co. of Arlington, Va., and they moved to Baldwin County.
She was a member of Bell Telephone Pioneers, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Foley Church of Christ. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Della E. and Samuel A. Harrell and her husband, Lewis Dukes.
Survivors include seven nieces, Carolyn McCluskey of Gulf Shores, Jo Ann Manning of Spanish Fort, Anita Kahn and Linda Bauer, both of Pensacola, Fla., Teresa Denney of Elberta, Pam Chowning of Nashville, Tenn., and Becky Hamm of Sheffield; four nephews, Thomas Harrell of Elberta, Bill Biggs of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Winston Biggs and David Biggs, both of Nashville; numerous extended family and friends.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. with funeral services at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley with the Rev. Joel Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Rest Memorial Park.
