E. Bayne Snyder (Bayne), 92, died March 24, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annabelle, in 2006, and is survived by four daughters, Elaine Snyder Conn., Janet Carol Snyder, Marilyn Budzynski (Ed), and Gwen Snyder (Phil Strniste); six grand children, Chris and Carissa Budzynski, Paul and Rachel Conn, and Christopher and Jeff Cundey; one great granddaughter, Allison Conn.
Bayne Snyder conducted pioneering research on the genetics of rubber trees in Indonesia before serving for more than 30 years as a research geneticist with the Southern Institute of Forest Genetics in Gulfport, Miss. He authored numerous scientific publications related to pine tree and plant genetics and was nationally recognized in his field. He retired and moved to Fairhope in 1979.
A celebration of his life will be at the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship Friday, April 6, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to honor his memory can donate to the Fellowship’s Living Memory Garden or to one of his favorite organizations: Sierra Club, Natural Resources Defense Council, Union of Concerned Scientists, or The Population Institute.
