DAPHNE, Ala.—The Toros took an early lead at Bayside Academy Tuesday but the Admirals stayed within striking distance until a third-quarter offensive burst helped  Spanish Fort sew up a 52-42 road win.

Quinn Atkinson led with 27 Toro points and teammate Jake Godfrey added seven for 2-0 Spanish Fort.

Bayside’s Spencer Newman also shot well with 21 points by his name. The Admirals (0-1) did 11 percent better than their visitors at the free-throw line making 14-of-23 attempts while the Toros were good for 6-of-12.

SF led 14-10 after the first eight minutes and 24-16 at the half. Atkinson scored 15 of his game-high tally in the third period to lead a 19-10 Toro charge. The Admirals rallied back in the fourth to outscore SF 16-9 before the final buzzer.
