Easter hops into North Baldwin County

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Oakwood Center for Living held its annual Easter egg hunt on Friday when residents' grandchildren and employees' children searched for eggs, received a visit from the Easter Bunny and enjoyed refreshments while spending time with loved ones.

The egg hunt resulted in four children finding prize eggs during the event. They were 3-year-old Hannah Spillman, and 9-year-old Rebekah Thomley, who each found a golden egg, while 5-year-old Luke Hestings and 3-year-old C.J. Jordan located silver eggs.

Oakwood resident Deborah Pyland said she enjoyed the children's visit.

“It’s fun and I like to watch the children,” she said in an interview at the event, explaining that she is happy to see children taking part in Easter festivities since her own grandchildren live far away.

Jeana Hughes, activity director, said she believed such an event is special for residents.

“They love it,” she said in an interview at the event. “It’s their favorite time. It brings them joy because they love children.”

After the hunt, the Easter Bunny visited the children.

Friday’s egg hunt was just one Easter activity in North Baldwin County. At midday Friday, approximately 200 Bay Minette residents attended a Good Friday service at First United Methodist Church, in which seven pastors from area churches presented a 30-minute program. A light lunch followed at the service, which was presented by the North Baldwin Ministerial Association.

The association also presented a sunrise service at Blackburn Park in Bay Minette at 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Additional Easter festivities included egg hunts and worship services at churches in Bay Minette, Stockton, Stapleton and Perdido.
