DAPHNE, Ala. — Estella Dorn of the Mobile International Festival will be the speaker for the Eastern Shore Exchange Club’s Sept. 18 meeting.
Dorn is the executive director of the Mobile International Festival, which will hold its 25th annual festival on Nov. 20-21. The event brings together the sights and sounds of the world together in one place. More than 50 countries are represented at the festival, which includes traditional dress, food, crafts and artwork from participating countries. Members and guests will learn more about the upcoming event and how they can join in the celebrations.
On Oct. 2, Paul Taylor from the University of South Alabama will update attendees on the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute. The Mitchell Cancer Institute is the first academic cancer research institute in the upper Gulf Coast region. The institute, initiated in 2000, is in the process of moving into its new state-of-the-art facility. The institute reflects the largest single research endeavor in the history of the University of South Alabama. In addition to clinical care for patients, it also researches new and more effective treatments for cancer.
The Eastern Shore Exchange Club hosts meetings at the Lake Forest Yacht Club featuring presentations by local business, organizations, and community events.
The public is invited to attend the meetings free of charge, which begin promptly at 6p.m., and are held on the first and third Thursdays of each month. Dinner is available for purchase at the Yacht Club.
The club is an all-volunteer, national service organization for men and women who want to serve their community, develop leadership skills and enjoy new friendships. Exchange is made up of more than 800 clubs and nearly 28,000 members throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
