DAPHNE, Ala. — The Women of the World Conference will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 25 and 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at Jubilee Baptist Church in Daphne. The Eastern Shore Women’s Ministry Inc. will sponsor the annual event, now in its seventh year.

The conference’s theme will be ‘Wake up — My People,” which comes from the Book of Revelation in the New Testament of the Bible.

“The event is to encourage believers and to present the message to non-believers. It’s to improve the status of a female in every way,” Linda Powell, the ministry’s director, said.

Fairhope songwriter and vocal coach Marjorie Searcy will be one of the speakers.

Margaret Kennedy, of Threads of Hope Ministry in Dothan, and Linda Johnson, of Mount Hebron Church Ministries in Mobile, also will speak at the event.

Clay Crosse will be the worship leader at the event. Crosse is a four-time Dove Award winner, and he won the New Artist of the Year award in 1994. The Dove Awards are presented annually for achievements in the Christian music industry. His wife, Renee, of Holy-Homes ministry, will also speak.

“I’ve had the opportunity to be in (Clay’s) presence on several occasions. He is a godly man and he can sing like crazy,” Powell said, noting Crosse sings hymns and contemporary religious music.

Tickets for the event cost $25, which includes event materials and a lunch.

“We have anywhere from 300 to 600 (people),” Powell said. “Every year it’s different.”

The conference does not make money for the group, according to organizers.

“The ticket funds go to pay for the expense of the food, the speakers and the publicity,” Powell said.
