Eating up math at Gulf Shores Elementary

In, Mrs. Tammy Shirley’s first grade class at Gulf Shores Elementary School, children are learning about fractions. The class used fruit (apples and grapes) to demonstrate how the fruit could be cut into halves, thirds and fourths. They thoroughly enjoyed the activity because they were able to eat up the math. The children enhanced the lesson during lunch by stating the items on their tray that could be cut into halves, thirds and fourths.
