FOLEY — Charles J. Ebert III will seek re-election for the position of the Foley City Council District 5 representative.
Ebert has served on the council for the past six years, elected in 2008 to a four-year term, and in 2006 he was appointed to the position when John Koniar accepted the vacant position of mayor.
“I consider it a prestigious honor to represent District 5,” Ebert said, “and I pledge to continue to work hard for all the citizens of Foley.”
Ebert believes that working cooperatively with other elected officials and city staff has been the key ingredients to Foley’s success.
Ebert, or Charlie as most people know him, was extremely active in the community long before serving on the city council. He served as president of the South Baldwin Jaycees, president of the Foley Optimist Club and president of the Foley Rotary Club. He also co-chaired the Foley Kids Park construction project, served on the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and served as a volunteer firefighter for 13 years with the Foley Volunteer Fire Department.
Recently, Ebert earned the classification of certified municipal officer from the Alabama League of Municipalities and he continues to serve the city of Foley today.
Even with the economic recession and the oil spill disaster, the city of Foley has remained financially stable. The city obtained an AAA bond rating, reduced the debt limit and avoided city personnel lay-offs while continuing to pave streets, build new sidewalks and provide new recreational facilities.
Ebert credits this to the sound financial management and the hard work of city employees and department heads.
As a business man, Ebert is aware of the importance of making Foley an attractive place for both families and businesses. A few years ago, the city of Foley hired a director of economic development. That decision has enabled Foley to attract new businesses, which creates more job opportunities in the community.
“Foley is a great family town, and we want to preserve that atmosphere while attracting new industry growth and development” Ebert said.
Ebert is the president of Ebert Agency Inc., a family business founded in 1928 by his grandfather, and Ebert has worked at the insurance office for the past 25 years. He graduated from Foley High School, attended Faulkner State Community College and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Auburn University.
Ebert’s wife, formerly Cale Crawford, is a mathematics instructor at Faulkner State Community College. Together they have one daughter, Marla, who is a 2012 Foley High School graduate and who is currently enrolled at Auburn University.
“As we continue to move forward, it is important to keep proven leadership that works well together for the citizens of Foley, Alabama,” Ebert said.
