Edna Louise Harrison Norris of Spanish Fort died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011.
She was born Feb. 16, 1926 in Knoxville, Tenn., to Professor Thomas Barrett Harrison and Mary Edna Shelley Harrison.
She graduated in business administration from the University of Tennessee, where she was editor of the Orange and White newspaper, president of the Panhellenic Council and vice president of Phi Mu sorority. She was a member of several honorary fraternities, including Mortar Board. She was chosen Outstanding Sophomore, a Torchbearer, and was listed in “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.”
She worked with the Atomic Energy Commission in Oak Ridge, Tenn., before becoming a housewife. As the family moved over the years, she kept busy raising their three children, volunteering at the schools, the church and the community. She volunteered her time to help others in any way she could, always putting others’ needs before her own.
Known for her infectious laughter, gracious attitude, kindness, and willingness to serve others, she was the kind of friend everyone wanted to have. Over the years her hobbies included golf, bridge, traveling, garden club, mahjong, photography, and painting.
She was a member of the Spanish Fort United Methodist Church since moving from Columbia, Tenn., to the retirement community of Westminster Village in 2004.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tommy Harrison.
Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, Homer Stanley “Stan” Norris; three children, Robert Norris of Mascot, Tenn., William (Jennifer) Norris of Fairhope and Jean (E. Martin) Yeager of Houston; and grandchildren, Kerri Norris Brock and Michael Norris of Knoxville, Tenn., Thomas (Ashley) Norris of Birmingham, Frank Norris, John Norris, Afan Swan and Walt Swan of Fairhope, Harrison Yeager of Austin, Texas, Barrett Yeager and Lawson Yeager of Houston.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope with the Rev. Debora Bishop officiating.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
